Summary

Watson and Holmes: A match made in disaster。

Jamie Watson and Charlotte Holmes are looking for a winter-break reprieve after a fall semester that almost got them killed。 But Charlotte isn’t the only Holmes with secrets, and the mood at her family’s Sussex estate is palpably tense。 On top of everything else, Holmes and Watson could be becoming more than friends—but still, the darkness in Charlotte’s past is a wall between them。

A distraction arises soon enough, because Charlotte’s beloved uncle Leander goes missing from the estate—after being oddly private about his latest assignment in a German art forgery ring。 The game is afoot once again, and Charlotte is single-minded in her pursuit。

Their first stop? Berlin。 Their first contact? August Moriarty (formerly Charlotte’s obsession, currently believed by most to be dead), whose powerful family has been ripping off famous paintings for the last hundred years。 But as they follow the gritty underground scene in Berlin to glittering art houses in Prague, Holmes and Watson begin to realize that this is a much more complicated case than a disappearance。 Much more dangerous, too。

What they learn might change everything they know about their families, themselves, and each other。

2。5 starsIt felt like there was a lot happening in this book for no real reason, and I’m still not 100% clear on how it all wrapped up。 Still going to give the third book a try though。Oh, and definitely need to have read the first book recently - it had been 3 years for me, so I’m sure that didn’t help。

Why so few dialog tags? Better written than the first but still not great。 Also, the tittle is a little heavy handed, no? I will not read the third。 Someone tell me how it ends。

Abigail

Better than the first installment!

Marie-Helen= Molly Hooperalso what the fuck is wrong with Jamie? i think that Charlotte is trying to make their relationship work but Jamie just wants to kiss her and clearly, Charlotte needs time after being raped to be in a physically romantic relationship。

Jamie as a narrator is annoying AF。 He's insensitive and self absorbed。 If this book was written from Charlotte's POV, my rating would have been 3 stars。 I liked the part of the audiobook narrated by Julia Whelan。 The ending was some bullshit。 I don't think I will be continuing with this series。。。 Jamie as a narrator is annoying AF。 He's insensitive and self absorbed。 If this book was written from Charlotte's POV, my rating would have been 3 stars。 I liked the part of the audiobook narrated by Julia Whelan。 The ending was some bullshit。 I don't think I will be continuing with this series。。。 。。。more

I loved the first book in this series and really wanted to like this one, though I did have some issues with the drug use and the language and some of the sexual allusions in the first book。 This one added in some of the woke agenda on top of that, and I finally decided, enough。

3 or maybe 3。5 starsThis book wasn't exceptionally amazing [unlike the first book of the series] and it wasn't exceptionally bad either。 Though it did seem pretty hard to follow on more than one occasion。 I guess it was an okay book。 3 or maybe 3。5 starsThis book wasn't exceptionally amazing [unlike the first book of the series] and it wasn't exceptionally bad either。 Though it did seem pretty hard to follow on more than one occasion。 I guess it was an okay book。 。。。more

Luckily, I read this as part of a reading challenge and listened to the audio book。 It was a little slow getting into the book and throughout。 Its very disappointing as I really enjoyed the first book in the series。 I feel like all the growth between the two characters from the first book was completely erased for the second book and we were starting over again。 I found that a little irritating。

I thoroughly enjoyed this book。 I really love Jamie and Charlotte and the way Jamie cares about Charlotte even when she can't care for herself。 I also love how they didn't rush into the romance and took it slowly, as per Charlotte's wishes。 Charlotte was also a strong heroine with a past of her own that she needed to work through, and I feel like that was very interesting。 This book wasn't exactly as exciting or interesting as the first one, but I still really liked it and would recommend it to I thoroughly enjoyed this book。 I really love Jamie and Charlotte and the way Jamie cares about Charlotte even when she can't care for herself。 I also love how they didn't rush into the romance and took it slowly, as per Charlotte's wishes。 Charlotte was also a strong heroine with a past of her own that she needed to work through, and I feel like that was very interesting。 This book wasn't exactly as exciting or interesting as the first one, but I still really liked it and would recommend it to any mystery lover。 。。。more

I really enjoyed the first book in this series (A Study In Charlotte) and was looking forward to finding out what Jamie and Charlotte get themselves into in book 2。 However, I must say it didn't live up to book 1。 I enjoyed it but at times I was confused and had to re-read/re-listen (since I listened to the audiobook while reading along) to figure out what was happening or how we got to that point。 I felt like a lot was going on and had trouble following。 I also didn't like the fighting between I really enjoyed the first book in this series (A Study In Charlotte) and was looking forward to finding out what Jamie and Charlotte get themselves into in book 2。 However, I must say it didn't live up to book 1。 I enjoyed it but at times I was confused and had to re-read/re-listen (since I listened to the audiobook while reading along) to figure out what was happening or how we got to that point。 I felt like a lot was going on and had trouble following。 I also didn't like the fighting between Charlotte and Jamie throughout the book。 I mean, I know they're teenagers, struggling with what their relationship is, but it felt kind of repetitive。 I didn't see the story ending how it did and I'm looking forward to reading book 3, The Case for Jamie, to see what happens next for Jamie and Charlotte! Overall, this is a solid 3 star book for me。 Not bad, still a good book, but just not one I'll be thinking about for long after finishing。 。。。more

Um??? What the heck was that ending???? First of all I’m still confused about actually happened with the uncle, so I’m going to have reread but I was so confused and AUGUST! WTF。 He did not deserve to go out like that when was trying so hard to make up for his family’s sins。 As usual I enjoyed the banter with Jamie and Charlotte and their attempts at trying to move to something more than friends。 Charlotte’s trauma is still, of course, very present and is something she is slowly working through。 Um??? Well, the story-telling is somewhat messy and disjointed。 It was not easy to follow, and even now that I've finished, I'm not sure that I understand what happened。 。。。more

SHOCK! (I'm still processing it)。About the characters, Charlotte and Jame are simply incredible, and I love them, period。 Both grew up as characters and as a team。 However, their relationship leads to a really vulnerable and complicated state。 Charlotte is still dealing with her demons, trying to heal。 If she was a complicated mystery in the first book, this one is far worse。 She's a bombshell。 But, I'm glad to see a different side of her, especially around her uncle。 And I'm so proud of Jamie。 We can see an improvement in his detective skills。 And August Moriarty surprised me (I might have a little crush on him)。 I have a lot of feeling right now。 I'm scared for their future。 I want to disappear some Moriarties and Holmeses。 I need to grab and read the third book (though I'm afraid about what's gonna happen next)。 。。。more

I loved the first book but unfortunately I really really did not like the second。 I felt like the mystery element wasn’t there and the love triangle didn’t keep my interest。 Both characters were so immature and full of angst。 The plot was slow and I was bored throughout。 I wanted to dnf this book so bad and the only reason I didn’t is because I got the audiobook to help me thorough。

2。5 STARSI don’t know how I feel about this book。 Charlotte’s family was in no way likable and same goes for Jamie’s mom who was there is the first few chapters。 Leanard (the uncle) was fine but he gave me mixed signals。 My feelings for August were all over the place。 I still don’t know if I liked him or not。Also, Charlotte and James’s relationship is so complicated and just unnecessary。 I get that a relationship needs to have a few bumps and road blocks, but all they do is play tug of war。 Eith 2。5 STARSI don’t know how I feel about this book。 Charlotte’s family was in no way likable and same goes for Jamie’s mom who was there is the first few chapters。 Leanard (the uncle) was fine but he gave me mixed signals。 My feelings for August were all over the place。 I still don’t know if I liked him or not。Also, Charlotte and James’s relationship is so complicated and just unnecessary。 I get that a relationship needs to have a few bumps and road blocks, but all they do is play tug of war。 Either get together or stay friends, it’s that simple。The pace of the book was really choppy。 At first it was slow, and then it was moderate, then slow again, and at the end, it just sped up and I had no clue what was going on。 If you ignore the points on top, this was a good book。 There were plentiful twists and turns。 If you wanted to solve the mystery alongside our detectives, you have information to do that。 I also LOVED that we got 2 chapters of Charlotte’s POV, making the rest of the book readable。 Overall, a nice book, just don’t know if I would read it again。 。。。more

CW: sexual assault/rape (CW is for the book + review)DNF'ed this 1 hour into the audiobook。 It was so boring, and nothing like the first book。 I didn't like Jamie much to begin with, but hearing him go on and on about how much he wants to get in Holmes' pants is so annoying。 She went through sexual assault and is still recovering! Yeah, I started hoping Charlotte would tell him he's a terrible jerk and to go to but instead they both acted like it was her fault。 Victim blaming is a no-no for me, and pressuring to have sex is also a no-no if you actually want me to like the two characters together。 I spent an hour wanting to tell Charlotte to ditch his loser butt, then decided to DNF。 I loved A Study in Charlotte, I gave it five stars, but this is a very different book than the first one。 I was only reading to hear more about Charlotte anyway。 。。。more
